☕️ Homemade Fast and Easy Hot Cocoa Recipe ☕️

Homemade Fast and Easy Hot Cocoa Recipe ☕️
  • There’s something so grounding about slowing down on a cold and rainy day with a warm cup of homemade hot chocolate.

  • In our home, this has become a simple little ritual <3

  • I love this recipe because it’s made with real, nourishing ingredients, it’s easy to customize, and it feels like such a cozy moment of care for both moms and littles. It’s also one of those small things that reminds me that wellness doesn’t have to be complicated.

  • Sometimes it’s just a warm drink, a calm moment, and being present.

  • If you’ve been looking for a simple and cleaner alternative to store-bought hot cocoa mixes, this is such a beautiful place to start!

☕️ Ingredients:

• 2 cups milk of your choice (almond, dairy, oat, buttermilk, etc.)
• 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder or raw cacao powder
• 1–2 tablespoons natural sweetener (maple syrup, honey, or a few pitted dates)
• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
• Pinch of sea salt
• Cinnamon to taste (optional)
• Chocolate chips to taste (optional)

☕️ Instructions:

1. Combine the ingredients

In a small saucepan, whisk together the milk, cocoa or cacao powder, sweetener, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of sea salt before turning on the heat. This helps prevent clumps and creates a smoother texture.

If you’re using dates as your sweetener, you can blend everything first in a blender for an extra creamy and naturally sweet result.

2. Heat gently

Place the saucepan over medium heat and warm the mixture slowly, whisking frequently. Gentle heating keeps the cocoa from burning and helps all the flavors come together.

3. Simmer, don’t boil

Allow the mixture to become hot, with small bubbles forming around the edges. Avoid bringing it to a full boil, which can affect both the texture and the taste.

4. Taste and adjust

Carefully taste your hot cocoa and adjust the sweetness or spices. This is where you can make it your own by adding more maple syrup, cinnamon, or even a few chocolate chips for extra richness (I never skip this last one!)

🍫 Tips for the Creamiest Hot Cocoa

• Use full-fat milk or homemade nut milk for the creamiest texture. I LOVE using the buttermilk I always save when I make my homemade butter, it tastes so much better and the texture is 1000/10!
• Add chocolate chips for a richer, more dessert-like cocoa.
• A pinch of sea salt truly enhances the chocolate flavor.
• Cinnamon adds warmth and supports blood sugar balance.
• Raw cacao is more nutrient-dense, while cocoa powder has a milder, classic taste.

🍫 A Hack I Love

Whenever I make homemade butter, I always save a little bit of the fresh whipped cream before it fully turns into butter. I keep it in the fridge and use it on top of this hot cocoa or in my morning coffees.

It feels like such a simple, old-fashioned and nourishing practice! Using what we already have at home and turning everyday moments into something a little more special.

If you don’t make butter at home yet, this could be a fun and empowering kitchen skill to learn. It’s easier than most people think, and your littles will love helping. Look for my “homemade butter recipe” on the blog!

🍫 Optional Toppings to Try

• Homemade whipped cream
• Coconut cream
• Cacao nibs
• A drizzle of maple syrup
• Collagen powder for extra nourishment
• Marshmallows for a fun treat
• Shaved dark chocolate
